This small town appears to be almost surrounded by water, it developed along the banks of the River Aire and to the east is the Ouse, whilst just to the south is the Aire and Calder Navigation, and a little to the west lie the meandering waters of the Selby Canal.

Snaith is an old town, its market charter was granted in 1223 and although no market exists today the town continues to be a thriving place attracting visitors from miles around. It has five pubs, and a number of individual shops run mostly by the owner/occupier who gives you friendly, personal attention.

The town is made more picturesque by the tidal River Aire running through its centre. Of the number of pleasant buildings to be seen the most notable is the ancient parish church dedicated to St. Lawrence. This is a fine church dating from 1086, standing on the site of an earlier Saxon church of which almost nothing remains. St.Lawrence's is well worth seeing, it has history and is rich in church treasures which include monuments and fragments of early stained glass. The church is located in a peaceful tree-lined churchyard adjacent to what was once the old Buttermarket. Nothing is left of the butter booths, nor the fire station, but the old "penny lock-up's' have been restored and are used as exhibition galleries. The old vicarage opposite the church is now converted into an interesting art and craft centre.

Snaith is ideally placed for touring the Ridings of Yorkshire, it gives good access to the cities of Leeds, Doncaster, York and Sheffield, and the towns of Selby, Goole and Pontefract where there is a race course.

The region has lots of pleasant villages to explore, is excellent for fishing and boating, and visitors can enjoy quiet riverside walks whilst watching river and canal wildlife. The area offers golf, and other sporting facilities can be found in local leisure centre's.

Tourist attractions include superb gardens, Latherton Hall, a battle site of 1461 and Steeton Hall Gatehouse.
